THE PHOENICIAN AND THE CANYON SUITES EARN PRESTIGIOUS 2009 AAA FIVE DIAMOND AWARDS

Resort’s New Authentic Italian Restaurant, Il Terrazzo, Joins Southwestern-Inspired Windows on the Green with Four Diamond Designation

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (October 29, 2008) – The Phoenician, Arizona’s premier luxury resort destination, has received the coveted 2009 Five Diamond Award from the American Automobile Association (AAA), marking the fifth consecutive year the property has been so honored. Also earning the Five Diamond designation for the second year in a row is The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician, an exclusive boutique resort-within-a-resort featuring enhanced services and amenities, now in its second year of operation.

As Five Diamond hotels, both The Phoenician and The Canyon Suites have been recognized for providing meticulous service, exceeding guest expectations and maintaining impeccable standards of excellence, demonstrating characteristics that epitomize luxury and sophistication.

Following its June opening, The Phoenician’s authentic Italian restaurant, Il Terrazzo, has also been honored with a 2009 Four Diamond Award for its complex and creative menu design. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner – as well as the resort’s new contemporary, plated Sunday Brunch — Il Terrazzo features the highest quality, market-fresh ingredients in its signature cuisine representing all regions of Italy. Highlighting the menu is a variety of hand-crafted breads and fresh pastas created on property by The Phoenician’s own culinary artisans.

Joining Il Terrazzo with its third consecutive Four Diamond Award is the Southwestern-inspired Windows on the Green. The restaurant features a distinctive menu incorporating robust, indigenous ingredients from Mexico, along with more traditional, local elements, resulting in an imaginative culinary show.

“As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, The Phoenician remains committed to providing the highest of standards and services indicative of the AAA Five Diamond experience,” said Managing Director Mark Vinciguerra. “We are proud that both The Phoenician and The Canyon Suites have once again been bestowed this honor, along with the AAA Four Diamond Award for our newest restaurant, Il Terrazzo, as well as our popular Windows on the Green.”

In the midst of a $70 million master plan, The Phoenician continues to bring contemporary style to the luxury resort experience. From a complete guestroom redesign to premiere restaurants and a new state-of-the-art ballroom that is scheduled to open in fall 2009, the property defines a new era of casual elegance.

The AAA Diamond Rating System is based on a thorough assessment by one of the organization’s full-time professional evaluators. Hotels and restaurants that earn AAA Approved status are assigned a rating of one to five AAA Diamonds, indicating the level of complexity in service, décor and amenities.
